I dedicated nearly a decade to serving the people of Miami-Dade County, first in the House of Representatives and later in the Senate. My journey into politics began with a simple but powerful belief: that everyone deserves a voice, especially those who have been overlooked and underserved. Born in Cap-Haïtien, Haiti, I understand the importance of community, perseverance, and the value of hard work. I’ve always strived to bring these values into my work as a public servant.
Throughout my time in office, I made it my mission to champion policies that improved healthcare, protected the rights of immigrants, and ensured that our children had access to the best education possible. As a registered nurse with over 30 years of experience, I worked tirelessly to improve healthcare access and reduce medical malpractice risks. I also fought for affordable housing, better opportunities for students, and a fairer, more inclusive immigration system.
Among my proudest accomplishments was securing over $125 million in funding for the local community, pushing for significant education reforms, and advocating for the extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for immigrants in need. I’ve always believed in standing up for what’s right, even when it wasn’t the popular thing to do. My legacy as a leader is defined by my commitment to the people I served—by listening to their needs, fighting for their rights, and working every day to create a better future for all.
